A nice crowd of 14 arrived early today and set right to work answering questions and ‘adopting’ projects for the Fall Auction. Here is what we decided.

Purpose: to raise funds for the materials we use in the ministry, to raise awareness of our mission and to recruit new members.

Date: the current consensus is September 26.

Items included: 35 items were adopted and basic decisions made about whether each is to be offered 'as is', as a kit, or finished. Items ranged from die-cut fabric piece collections, to embroidered table runners, collections of blocks for kits, partially assembled table toppers, finished and nearly-assembled tops and some finished quilts.

Auction format: Chinese and silent auctions were the chosen formats. To refresh, participants in a Chinese auction buy tickets at a preset price then put tickets into a jar beside the item they want. When the auction is closed a ticket is chosen at random from each jar; the participant with the matching number wins the item. In a silent auction, each item has a bid sheet with an item description, a minimum bid, and a bidding increment. Participants are given a bidding number and may bid on any item they wish. When bidding is closed, each item goes to the highest bidder.

Donation raffle: members liked the idea of having one or more donation raffle items to spark interest in the event. The yo-yo button quilt was a clear favorite with Judy’s dresden plate quilt a close runner-up. A picture or pictures can be used on posters advertising the date; the quilt(s) might even travel to interested groups - chaperoned, of course! A drawing will be held at the end of the event to choose the winner.

Other activities: last year we had a couple of quilt turnings and demonstrations. We also had copious goodies offered We can decide closer to the event whether / how much extra is needed.
